Client: ArthurAshe.org

Project: Web design, development, and video

The goal of the redesign of ArthurAshe.org was to make the legacy of the tennis legend and social activist Arthur Ashe available to a worldwide audience.

Work began on the project by developing a content strategy for the rich archive of Ashe writings, articles, and audio-visual materials.

Direction for the design and technical implementation flowed from the desire to make the website both visually-rich and easily accessable.

Client: Contemptster.com

Project: Blog customization, graphic design, and content development

Delivering a daily dose of snark, Contemptster.com was designed for a NYC-based group of comedy writers.

Leveraging the open-source WordPress platform, a custom console was created that would allow the writers and content staff to easily publish articles, create interactive polls, and manage a growing audience of readers.

Using 100% open-source technologies, the end result is a website flexible enough to handle daily updates.

Client: The History Channel
Project: Historical Speeches and Video Archive

Services provided: project management, consulting client's internal IT staff, Flash development, content management system integration

Project description: The challenge? To create a fully index and searchable online archive of the massive History Channel archive of historical speeches and videos. This six month project required multiple levels of both multimedia and content management technology expertise.

Consulting began with the network's internal IT department and the creation of functional specs for the Interwoven TeamSite/MediaBin architecture that power the system. One other objective for the site managers was the integration of extensive the History.com almanac and encyclopedia. Services provided include planning and documentation for all of the above, as well as fully developing the many Flash components used throughout the site. The Flash components not only serve video and streaming MP3 audio from the History Channel archives, but they also serve rich-media ads third-party video ad units.

Project: FDR Podcast

Services provided: audio encoding, XML coding

Project description: As a part of the first wave of podcasts developed for a cable network, the FDR: A Presidency Revealed podcast brought to life many of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's famous speeches. From audio encoding archival tapes to developing the necessary subscription XML documents for iTunes and other RSS-enabled players, the FDR Podcast was one seamless experience that brought users closer to the "fireside chats" than ever before.

Aside from the project itself, the delivered podcasting template continues to enable The History Channel to reach viewers by powering subsequent projects like the popular and ongoing Digging For the Truth podcast.

Client: A&E Television

Project: Flash XML Video Player

Services provided: Flash development, XML and content
management integration

Project description: The objective of the 2006 re-launch of AETV.com was to provide a powerful, yet usable, promotional engine for the network. Towards this goal, a simple video player was commissioned that would make embedded video easy to access for users, and easy to deploy for the content managers of the website.

After consultation with the site managers, this Flash/XML solution was developed. Now across AETV.com, relevant and related video is just a click away. And for A&E's web producers, populating videos across the site is as easy as filling out simple
web form.

Finally, what would a successful online video strategy be without ads? The AETV.com Flash/XML player fully supports 3rd party integration of LightningCast technologies (the leading broadband ad-serving network.)

Client: The Biography Channel

Project: Broadband Video Portal

Services provided: project management, consulting client's internal IT staff, Flash development, and content management system integration

Project description: For this project, I was reunited with the internal IT department who helped bring the massive History Channel video and historical speech archive to life. I provided assistance with the content management strategy and usability throughout the site.

With an accelerated production schedule, the network was able to roll out a product that offers great video content to users in a simple and elegant way that befits the Biography brand.

Client: SiTV @ AFI Digital Content Lab

Project: SiTV "Pure" Broadband Prototype

Services provided: consultation, flash/video production

Project description: Created for AFI's 2006 Digital Content Lab, SiTV "Pure" is a broadband video prototype developed to show off the network's diverse wealth of content.

The prototype was unveiled on the AFI Campus on July 27, 2006. The SiTV Pure team included Shey Media, threespot, and Mandalan Group, and Carolyn MacDonald.



Client: Rainbow Media Television Studios

Project: TV Studio Website

Services provided: consultation, web development, and graphic design

Project description: A very simple, yet powerful, corporate website for the world famous Rainbow Television Studios in New York City's 11 Penn Plaza. The goals of this Cablevision property were to showcase the many services offered and to drive traffic towards studio rentals and sales.

Additional features include random Javascript placement of case studies that showcase past high-profile production and post-production projects made possible by Rainbow Studios. In addition to the client's external goals, one internal goal was to create a structure in which any employee in the Rainbow offices could upload and modify content. Objective achieved?
